  • Penguins rout Senators in Game 5 laugher
Sun, 21 May 2017 22:01:32 GMT The Pittsburgh Penguins hammered the Ottawa Senators 7-0 in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference final, taking back momentum in a major way.
  • Rinne, depth helps Predators top Ducks in Game 5 to take lead in West final
Sun, 21 May 2017 04:06:02 GMT Pontus Aberg's first career postseason goal lifted the Nashville Predators to a 3-1 win in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final Saturday night against the Ducks in Anaheim. The Predators are now one win away from reaching the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in franchise history. Anaheim jumped out to a 1-0 lead 7:14 into the second period.
  • Marc-Andre Fleury's impact on Penguins evident even from bench
Sat, 20 May 2017 17:40:43 GMT When told of the Penguins’ Game 4 starter, Marc-Andre Fleury disappeared, once again graciously relinquishing the crease to Matt Murray, Pittsburgh’s presently healthy, and always preferred, puck stopper. Having watched a championship run from the end of the bench last year when Murray surfaced from the minor leagues, and then serving as the backup this season while at the same time managing the ever-present threat of a trade proposal – which would have truly tested his team-first mentality – Fleury was called upon after warmups in Game 1 of the first round when the Penguins’ hot, upstart netminder went down with an injury. In that moment, Fleury launched an unlikely Conn Smythe Trophy bid.
  • End to End: Will prospective youth movement result in more scoring depth?
Sat, 20 May 2017 17:49:01 GMT Going End to End today are CSNPhilly.com producers/reporters Tom Dougherty, Jordan Hall, and Greg Paone. One of the main criticisms of coach Dave Hakstol has been his lineup decisions. With the prospective youth movement in 2017-18, the Flyers will have more young blood and skill in training camp competing for roster spots and playing time.
  • Inspiring individual efforts from players who didn't win playoff hardware
Mon, 22 May 2017 04:59:48 GMT A lot of lingering glory stems from postseason success in the NHL, with near-Hall of Fame careers getting kicked up to enshrinement levels, while obvious superstars burnish their legacies with Conn Smythe trophies that seem to count for something extra beyond any and all hardware copped in the regular season. As a result, we often marvel all the further at the Gretzkys, Messiers, Lemieuxs, Roys, Sakics, while losing sight of amazing players who never quite reached those upper shelves of glory—at least not in terms of winning Conn Smythes—but who had inspiring runs of their own. Sittler could explode with the best of them: consider his ten-point game from the winter of 1976.
  • Adam Vingan, Joe Rexrode analyze Predators' Game 5 win vs. Ducks
Sun, 21 May 2017 04:57:30 GMT Adam Vingan, Joe Rexrode analyze Predators' Game 5 win vs. Ducks
  • Sunday, May 21: Has Kessel changed?
Sun, 21 May 2017 17:49:05 GMT So maybe, just maybe, we should feel a little better about the Bruins showing in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Bruins bowed out in six games in the first round to the Ottawa Senators as we all remember and they even had the built-in excuse that they were missing three of their top-four defensemen for pretty much the balance of the series once Torey Krug, Adam McQuaid and Brandon Carlo went out with an assortment of injuries. That doesn’t even count the surgeries that Patrice Bergeron and Tuukka Rask succumbed to after the season and the fact that David Krejci was a banged-up ghost in the series as well. But the Bruins played Ottawa tough and might have even been able to pull off the upset if
  • Projecting Zibanejad’s Contract Extension
Sun, 21 May 2017 05:00:00 GMT Mika Zibanejad’s two year, $5.25 million contract is expiring this offseason. Zibanejad signed this contract in 2015 with the Ottawa Senators, after his 3 year, $5.325 million entry level contract expired. Unless the New York Rangers re-sign him sooner, Zibanejad will become a restricted free agent on July 1. Both Zibanejad’s cap hit and average annual value (AAV) were $2.625 million per season in 2015-16 and 2016-17. His actual NHL salary varied in each season of this contract – $2 million last season, $3.25 million this season. Since Zibanejad has already fulfilled a bridge deal, he may be in search of a long-term extension now. The Rangers must assess their current cap situation and determine
